Welcome back, Potterheads! Last week we discussed Rupert Grint, and what he has been doing post-Potter. This week’s spotlight is reserved for the pure-blooded witch: Bonnie Wright, more famously known as Ron Weasley’s younger sister Ginny Weasley.

The now 25-year-old actress decided to audition for the role when her older brother, Lewis said she reminded him of Ginny Weasley. 10 years of her life was dedicated to this role, but what has the red-headed Weasley who was infatuated with the Harry Potter been up to since then?

If you’re anything like me, you are constantly Googling about Harry Potter whether it’s merchandise, inside secrets to the movies, what JK Rowling has coming out next or specifically what the heck these Potter characters have been up to since the films ended? When it comes to Daniel Radcliffe or Emma Watson, there is always something new appearing in the media however not a lot about Ms. Wright. This is quite strange to me because even Sirius Black had more coverage in the Daily Prophet than Bonnie Wright has in the muggle world news, yet Wright has been taking on more than most muggles, or witches for that matter, would dare take on! If she isn’t acting, she’s directing films and music videos, and if she’s not doing either of those she’s screenwriting and working on her production company. See what I mean? I hope she borrowed Hermione’s Time Turner to get her through her busy schedule.

Since her post-Potter days, she has been in quite a few shorts and movies. The movies she has acted in include The Sea (2013), After the Dark (2013), Before I Sleep (2013), Who Killed Nelson Nutmeg (2015), The Highway is for Gamblers (pre-production), A Christmas Carol (Scottish version, 2015), and Those Who Wander (2015). The few shorts she was in included Sweat (2014), How (Not) to Rob a Train (2014) and Medusa’s Ankles (2015). These movies and shorts were primarily famous across seas, hence the reasoning why us Americans feel like we should have posted “Have You Seen This Witch” sign with her face on it posted all over the place.

Along with acting she was been behind the camera directing short films and music videos. The two shorts she directed are Separate We Come, Separate We Go (2012) and Know Thyself (2014). Both of which starred her Harry Potter co-star Christian Coulson (also known as Tom Riddle). Not only has she had the chance to direct shorts, but she has started directing music videos. You can find the music video that Wright directed, Dreaming by Sophie Lowe, here. Let’s not forget the fact that Wright even screen wrote for the above shorts.

With her being a jack of all trades, you can bet your bottom dollar that she owns her own production company called Bon Bon Lumiere which was originally founded in 2012. What made her decide to produce and direct? Let’s find out from Bonnie herself, “My love of storytelling and character took hold of me as a young actor, listening to the words and ideas of renowned directors. I was fascinated with just how I could use my voice, my reactions and expressions to bring their vision to life. Intrigued too by the artistry of everything that is created before an actor steps on set. I constantly asked the crew ‘What does that button do?’ or ‘Why did you paint the sky green?’; I’m now so thankful I did - it was the beginning of my education and my passion. Now as a director, I want to make films which make the most fleeting moments and intimately felt emotions universal rather than lonely; the points in life where you think ‘maybe I’m the only one thinking this?’ I want to the reveal emotions and beliefs which lie obscured by the barriers we put up, from fear of being judged or abandoned. Exploring themes which resonate with me; landscape, love and loss, redemption and the process of realization, perfect or partial.” – Bonnie Wright 2015.

To say that Bonnie Wright is only famous for her role as Ginny Weasley in Harry Potter would be a lie. Her goals and ambitions have turned her into a great role model for women and children everywhere even had she never been in the Potter films. The transformation Wright has made since her Potter days is truly magical. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments and dreams, Bonnie Wright.
